Summer reading: Columbia and NewHolly readers offer suggestions

The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory
I truly enjoy Ms. Gregory’s books. This one tells the historical story of Mary, Queen of Scots. The book comes alive with the early English way of life at the court, and Mary’s tragic years of imprisonment.

Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe
You can hear Lowe’s voice while reading his memoir. (I’ve’ heard it’s a great audio book as well). Very enjoyable read for summer. Lots of stories from his youth + the “Brat Pack.”

Medicus: A Novel of the Roman Empire by Ruth Downie
Great book about Roman legions occupying Britain. Main character, Ruso, is very endearing. This is the first in a series with the same character.

Life Strategies for Dealing with Bullies by Jay McGraw
This book is a must have book for every parent, or anyone who doesn’t have kids. It’s very helpful and very enlightening. The book presents many bulling scenarios and teaches many ways to resolve bulling issues.

Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane
Patrick Kenzie must deal with the repercussions of a case 12 years ago. The right decision was not the best decision.
