Because I could not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me.
The Carriage held but just ourselves And Immortality.
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore is an edge-of-your-seat read. After seeing a man in mint green at his wife’s hospital bedside – a man he shouldn’t be able to see – Charlie Asher’s life goes from ho-hum normal to utter insanity. Recruited to be Death, Charlie must juggle raising his daughter, hearing voices coming from the sewers, people dropping dead and raven-like creatures attacking him. The characters are brilliant, the humor is epic and the adventure is one of a kind!
Casey Maldonado loses everything she once held dear in one terrible and tragic accident. Unable to carry on her current life, she packs her bags and hits the road hoping to forget her past. In Embrace the Grim Reaper by Judy Clemens, Casey can’t leave it all behind – especially with Death as a constant companion. With Casey’s bad luck, Death might be the only thing that keeps her alive.
Bryan Fuller’s show, Dead Like Me, introduces us to Georgia Lass shortly before her life ends when a toilet seat from a space station falls on her. Georgia, however, doesn’t get to move on to the great beyond; she is selected to become a Grim Reaper. Having to balance her new “life” without connecting with her old one becomes a constant struggle. Dark, yet hilarious, this show ended too soon. Luckily, it can still be enjoyed by checking it out at your local library!
