by Andrea G.
We’re a month into the new year and SPL staff are getting excited about new books slated to come out in 2015. Here are a few we’re particularly looking forward to:
Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronovitch
An intrepid hero, clever mysteries, entertaining villains, and some wizardry – this fifth book in the Rivers of London series continues to be tremendous fun. Start here or begin at the beginning with Midnight Riot.
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval N. Harari
This is a brilliant yet accessible perspective on our species’ history, from hunter-gatherers to capitalists, scientists and LLCs.
The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
I have a feeling that this book, like some of Ishiguro’s previous books, might be best if we don’t know anything about it when we begin reading.
Get in Trouble by Kelly Link
“Kelly Link is one of my all-time favorite writers. You know who else would love her? Kafka and Lewis Carroll. Like them, she knows the things the rest of us don’t. But she also knows how to make well-known heartbreaks glow with strange new lights.”—Arthur Phillips
The Sasquatch Hunter’s Almanac by Sharma Shields
This debut novel by a Spokane author (formerly of Seattle) is an offbeat mix of magical realism and family saga. Obsession, love and monsters!
- Funny Girl by Nick Hornby
- The World Before Us by Aislinn Hunter
- The First Bad Man by Miranda July
- Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson
- God Help the Child by Toni Morrison
- Find Me by Laura Van den Berg
