You are not alone. The siren song of chocolate has lured most of us at one time or another, and February offers more temptations than just about any month. Would it be so bad to just give in? There are many healthful ways to indulge; the book Chocolate: A Healthy Passion gives lots of ideas how, and in fact, you can even Eat Chocolate, Lose Weight (see the book by Will Clowe for details)!
Another option, of course, is to read about chocolate. As of early February, there were 912 items in our catalog with a chocolate connection! You can try the Chocoholic mystery series by JoAnna Carl, or a chocolate-themed romance by Zelda Benjamin. There is even a sci-fi book about chocolate, which has gotten great reviews!
And, last but not least, check out your local cookbook section—Dewey number 641.3374 is your friend. There’s a display on at the Central Library, level 7, that has a lot of luscious chocolate cookbooks out for you to take home! A great one is The Ghirardelli Chocolate Cookbook, full of recipes by the famous Bay Area chocolatiers. Apparently its founder, Domingo Ghirardelli, got his start making chocolate drinks for the miners who were in town for the Gold Rush! Who knew?
