Down with the Sickness

I just got hit by a winter cold and it hit me hard…usually I only need a day to recover, but not this time. Went back to work on day three and was miserable. Took another day off hoping to get through it – I spent most of my time away moving from the bed to the couch then back to bed again. I couldn’t even read because I couldn’t concentrate, but I did get a lot of time with the television screen.

Pulled out an old favorite of mine, Across the Universe, starring Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood. Not only does it have one of the best soundtracks, but just the visual effects and story are so beautifully done. It does a remarkable job of bringing The Beatles lyrics to life and creating a story of its time.

Caught up on The Magicians Season 3, based on the book The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Magicians and a magical land do wonders on making you forget about being sick in bed. There is something so fun about this show – you never know what’s going to happen and I love all of the characters so very much.

Watched a new one when my husband got home called Leave No Trace starring Ben Foster. Based on the novel My Abandonment by Peter Rock, it tells the story of a father and daughter living in a nature preserve in Portland, Oregon. When a jogger discovers their existence their world as they know it will no longer be the same.

Have any sick day binge worthy TV watching you would recommend?

  1. This is SO timely, Kara, as I think you gave me your cold, and I’ll need some stuff to vegg out to this weekend. (*JK – I could have gotten it anywhere, this time of year).

  2. Was down for 3 days last month and burned through the Dune and Children of Dune mini-series (3-episodes each bout 80 mins per) and a season of Blandings (the library has both seasons). Can’t go wrong with smatterings of Are You Being Served or Keeping Up Appearances, either. (spl has both)
