Starting this week, The Seattle Public Library will begin distributing a limited supply of COVID-19 rapid testing kits at all 27 of our locations. Public Health — Seattle & King County is providing these free self-tests to the community to make it easier for those most impacted by COVID-19 to test when they need to and help prevent spread.
Patrons can pick up a BinaxNOW rapid testing kit, take it home, and get results within 15-20 minutes.
You can go to this King County web page for information on the tests, including tips for taking one and videos that have been translated into 25+ languages. www.kingcounty.gov/SelfTest
As mentioned above, supplies of the tests are limited and intended for people who have difficulty accessing tests. Please only take what you need.
Public Health — Seattle & King County recommends taking rapid self-tests for the following situations:
- If a close contact or someone in your household is exposed or has COVID-19 symptoms
- For work or schools–check with your employer/school to see what type of tests they accept
- Before or after family gatherings, parties, or holiday functions
- After large events such as a sports games or faith based-services and after travel
Eligible residents can also order free, rapid at-home tests from the Washington Department of Health at www.SayYesCovidHomeTest.org. The tests will be delivered to your home.
As always, you can contact the Library with any questions about the tests or other Library programs and services by calling 206-386-4636, or through email or chat at www.spl.org/ask.
