July 2023 Author and Community Events at the Library

July is a great time to come to a Library program, outdoors and indoors. Wander a StoryWalk® featuring books by Indigenous authors in four locations around Magnolia; enjoy a night of spoken word, dance and choir with Path With Art at the Central Library; and listen to readings from award-winning authors including Karen Lord, Silvia Moreno-García and Tobi Ogundiran.

StoryWalk MagnoliaMagnolia StoryWalks®: From July 8 to Aug. 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Follow a StoryWalk® Trail this summer at Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, Magnolia Community Center, Magnolia Farmers’ Market, the Magnolia Branch and the playground near the Discovery Park Visitor Center. Enjoy five books written by Indigenous authors as you stroll through these wonderful parks and other sites in Magnolia.

Black Activism in Print., exhibit at the Central Library from the African-American Collection at the Douglass-truth Bran

Black Activism in Print: Visual Art from the African American Collection – Exhibit Opening Reception. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 13. Central Library, Level 8 – Gallery. Celebrate the opening of a new exhibit featuring visual art from the Douglass-Truth Branch’s African American Collection, including framed prints created by prominent Black artists and activists Charles White and Elizabeth Catlett, on display for the first time at the Central Library since their donation in 1967.

Voices of Belonging: An Evening of Celebration with Path With Art Artists. 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 14. Central Library, Level 1 – Auditorium. “Voices of Belonging” will feature a lively variety of performances from Path With Art artists, including spoken word poetry, dance, choir and band music, and even some DJ-ing! All of these forms of expression will be connected by the guiding theme of belonging and will celebrate the power of art to heal, uplift, and bring people together. Path With Art is an event partner.
